Here it is! The music video for Katy Perry's new hit single, "Part of Me."
Not exactly what I was expecting, but still pretty good.
What with the army-inspired girl empowerment theme, Demi Moore circa 90's haircut, etc. it's Perry's best mix of fantasy and reality to date.
And I really think she should pursue some more acting.
Here's another video of me dancing. It's another routine from my intermediate Latin ballroom class at school. This time around, it's the samba. The samba is very interesting, because the rhythm of it is the basis of a lot of Latin music today.
These videos are to help us get ready for our tests. I'm testing this particular routine tomorrow.
Some day, I'm going to write a longer entry about her. I feel that she is a strong vocalist and a good person as well. I have also found that she is not afraid to sing about things that most people typically don't want to discuss.
"You thought you'd win, but I knew you'd lose. Honey, I'm flyer than altitude cruise!" -Nicki Minaj, spitting rhymes on a "Single Ladies" remix.
Nicki Minaj is no stranger to the aeronautical. The last single off her debut album, "Pink Friday," was called "Fly" and featured Rihanna and rap's baddest bitch on a plane in its music video. Much has happened since, including a psychotic rant on "Roman in Moscow," a hectic diss on "Stupid Hoe," an exorcism themed performance of "Roman Holiday" at the Grammys, and a badass team up with Lil Wayne on "Roman Reloaded." All of the aforementioned were in preparation for the Nickster's second studio album, "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded," which drops April 3rd.
The first official worldwide single, however, is entitled "Starships." Initially planned to be "Va Va Voom," the record label scrapped those plans to release "Starships" instead. I must say, I'm happy to wait till later for "Va Va Voom," because "Starships" is pretty awesome.
After other songs displayed her different sides, Nicki proves that she can still bring the party on "Starships." Many are calling this song a sequel to Minaj's summer hit, "Super Bass." I can see similarities between the two songs, but I think "Starships" is even better than "Super Bass." "Starships" incorporates several elements of pop music, which I think is a smart move. Also, Nick gets to show off some more of her singing skills in "Starships," which adds to her growing versatility.
"Starships" came out about a month ago, on Valentine's Day. It has since peaked at #6 on the U.S. Hot 100 Billboard chart. I think that this song has the potential to be Nicki's first #1 hit. Over the summer, "Super Bass" peaked at #3 and remains her highest charting song to date. If she had released a hot remix of "Super Bass," it probably would've gotten to #1. If Ms. Minaj knows what's good for her, she will learn from this.
Anyway, here's a fan made lyric video for "Starships." Disclaimer: some of the lyrics are wrong. See if you can spot all the mistakes, but don't forget to enjoy it as well. I think it's pretty good, despite the lyrical errors.
I'll post the music video when it comes out. Apparently, it was filmed in Hawaii and is going to be quite colorful. Sounds pretty exciting!
